Welcome to Depth ("Depth", "we", "our", or "us"), operated at depth.twelvesixeight.com and through our mobile and web applications. Depth is a shared reading platform designed to help people read great books together in real-time focus sessions with reading partners ("denmates").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, web application, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). We collect information strictly necessary to provide, personalize, and improve your reading experience:

A. Account & Profile Information

When you sign up or join our waitlist, we collect your email address, chosen username or display name, avatar configuration, and authentication identifiers. If you sign in using third-party providers (such as Apple or Google Sign-In), we receive identity tokens provided by those platforms.

B. Reading & Session Activity

To enable synchronous reading sessions and track progress, we store your book progress, current chapter and section positions, reading timers, focus session history, streaks, and timestamps.

C. User Content (Ideas, Notes, Highlights & Reactions)

We store the passages you highlight, notes and ideas you write, quotes you save, and reactions you share during reading sessions with your connected reading partners.

D. Device & Technical Diagnostics

We automatically collect technical data necessary for system stability, security, and app performance, including device model, operating system version, app version, IP address, crash logs, and general diagnostics.

We use the collected information for legitimate operational purposes directly supporting your reading experience:

• Synchronizing Reading Sessions: Transmitting real-time reading progress, timers, and shared reactions to paired denmates.
• Personalized Library Experience: Maintaining your library, bookmarks, ideas, reading stats, and audio playback state.
• Account Management & Authentication: Verifying your identity, delivering magic links, and maintaining account security.
• Communication & Reminders: Sending session invites, focus reminders, reading updates, and service announcements.
• App Performance & Improvements: Diagnosing bugs, preventing abuse, and improving app performance and user experience.

How Information Is Shared

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share information in the following limited circumstances:

• With Your Denmates: Users you invite or connect with can view your display name, avatar, online presence status, shared session timers, and notes/reactions shared within mutual sessions.
• Service Providers & Infrastructure: We work with trusted third-party providers (such as Supabase for database and authentication, hosting infrastructure, and crash diagnostics) who process data strictly under confidentiality agreements to operate the Service.
• Legal Compliance: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety, rights, and property of our users, Depth, or the public.
• Business Transfers: In connection with an acquisition, merger, reorganization, or sale of assets, where user data is transferred as a business asset under this Privacy Policy.

We use industry-standard technical and organizational security measures (including TLS encryption in transit and encrypted storage at rest) to safeguard your data.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide you the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or permanently anonymize your personal information from our active databases.

Regardless of your location, we respect your rights to control your personal data under GDPR and CCPA/CPRA frameworks:

• Access & Portability: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you in machine-readable format.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.
